A Gift From a First Salary
At Komana Vidyalaya in Padiyathalawa, in the Mahaoya zone of Ampara District, children study in the face of many hardships and shortages. One thing the students had long needed was a sound system of their own. On 23 September 2026, with great joy and humility, Umbria Api Sri Lankan Unity handed over a complete public address system to the school, to belong to its students.
The full cost was covered by Vinuja Koralage and Sanuja Koralage, the children of our members Mr. Thilak Koralage and Mrs. Chamila Koralage, who chose to give the first salaries from their jobs to this cause. It is an example for every parent and every young person in our community, and we thank them with all our hearts.

To make the handover possible, Mr. N. K. Dasanayake, a member of the Umbria Api Sri Lankan Unity executive committee, gave up a good part of his few days of holiday, and covered the costs himself, to be there on behalf of all of us. We remember his effort with deep gratitude.
“Watching these children, who learn under so many hardships, look at their new sound system with smiling faces, one hope stays with us: that one day it will help bring forward the public speakers, singers, presenters and musicians of tomorrow.”

Next for Komana: clean drinking water

The students of Komana Vidyalaya still struggle with access to drinking water. Umbria Api Sri Lankan Unity is now preparing a project to solve this problem for the school.
To make it a success, we respectfully ask for the support of every one of you.
